Giggling Squid in Chelmsford Thai-up Posted On 18 June 2021

New branch of restaurant business to open in Bond Street

Thai restaurant chain, Giggling Squid, will be bringing a touch of the exotic to Chelmsford city centre this summer.

The new outlet in Bond Street will be the company’s third in Essex – they are already in Billericay and Brentwood – and will be open seven days a week.

Their co-founder Andy Laurillard told the Chelmsford Weekly News that the company philosophy was quite simple: “We just want people to have a great time over something tasty.”

And that will not be limited to their restaurant as a wide-ranging takeaway menu will also be available for telephone orders and click and collect, with a delivery option also available.

The restaurants are famed for their light floral interiors, while the bold Thai flavours come across in mouth-watering dishes such as Jicama Salad and the Soft-Shell Pranee Pawns.

Mr Laurillard commented: “Thai mealtimes are energetic, informal, and adventurous. It’s relaxed and there’s no standing on ceremony.

“Every Giggling Squid has its own personal touch, and this restaurant is no different. It’s a beautifully designed space that we hope will bring a lot of pleasure to our guests.

“Food is celebrated – and we can’t wait to welcome everyone.”

Giggling Squid has expanded rapidly after being formed in the basement of a tiny fisherman’s cottage in Brighton in 2002. There are almost 40 restaurants across the southern counties, stretching into the Midlands and East Anglia, with branches at diverse destinations such as Bury St Edmunds, Beaconsfield and Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Chelmsford restaurant is one of six in the pipeline – the others are at Hornchurch, Maidstone, Mere Green, West Bridgford and Welwyn Garden City.

Opening hours are expected to be Monday to Thursday (noon – 10pm), Friday to Saturday (noon – 10.30pm) and Sunday (noon – 9.30pm).
